Tribes

Gauls

Masters of defence and speed

The Gauls are the best pick for a first game. Their defence is strong, their riders and merchants are the fastest in the game, their Cranny is twice the size of others', and they build the Trapper, which captures attackers.

Attack Defence Speed Easy start
A Gaul village behind its palisade with its warriors in front

Strengths

  • Strong defence: the Phalanx and the Druidrider are among the best defenders.
  • Speed: the Theutates Thunder is the fastest rider, and their merchants are the fastest (24 fields an hour) and carry 750.
  • A double Cranny: a Gaul Cranny hides twice what others' do.
  • The Trapper: captures part of the attackers.

Weaknesses

  • Their infantry attack is weaker than others', so they attack mostly with cavalry.

Their own buildings

  • Palisade: the Gauls' wall.
  • Trapper: needs a Rally Point. It makes traps that capture attackers when they hit your village, and every level adds traps.

Troops

These are the Gauls' ten troops as the game has them, each with what it is for:

Base values before upgrades. Speed is in fields per hour on a ×1 world and is multiplied by the world's troop speed.

The Chieftain and conquest

The Chieftain is the Gauls' administrator. Every Chieftain that arrives in a normal attack and survives lowers loyalty by 20 to 25. Details in the chapter on your second village.

Who they suit

Beginners, players who can't log in often, and anyone who enjoys defence and trade.

Tips for the start

  • Build the Cranny early: your big Cranny protects most of your resources from raids.
  • A few Phalanxes make your village a target that doesn't pay.
  • The Trapper keeps raiders away in the first weeks.
