The Teutons are the raiding tribe. The Clubswinger is cheap, quick to train and carries a lot of loot, so you build a big army early and plunder your neighbours. Their defence is weaker than others'.
Attack Defence Speed Easy start
Strengths
- Cheap troops that train fast: your army grows faster than others'.
- Big loot: their units carry a lot, and raids pay for your growth.
- Merchants carry 1000: twice the Romans'.
- Skilled raiders: when Teutons raid a village, its Cranny protects only 80% of what it normally hides.
Weaknesses
- Their defence is weak, and the Earth Wall has a lower bonus than the Romans' and the Gauls' walls.
- Their merchants are the slowest in the game: 12 fields an hour.
- Raids make enemies, so be ready for an answer.
Their own buildings
- Earth Wall: the Teutons' wall.
- Brewery: capital only, needs a Rally Point at level 10 and a Granary at level 20. It holds a festival that strengthens your armies' attack while it lasts, but catapults hit random targets and Chiefs lower loyalty at half strength.
Troops
These are the Teutons' ten troops as the game has them, each with what it is for:
| Unit | Attack | Def. vs infantry | Def. vs cavalry | Speed (fields/h) | Carry | Crop upkeep |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ClubswingerThe cheapest attacker and the quickest to train. The raiding weapon of the start. | 40 | 20 | 5 | 7 | 60 | 1 |
| SpearmanThe infantry defender against cavalry. | 10 | 35 | 60 | 7 | 40 | 1 |
| AxemanThe Teutons' strongest attacking footman. | 60 | 30 | 30 | 6 | 50 | 1 |
| ScoutA scout on foot: finds out what a target holds. Does not fight. | 0 | 10 | 5 | 9 | 0 | 1 |
| PaladinA strong defensive rider against infantry, and it carries a lot. | 55 | 100 | 40 | 10 | 110 | 2 |
| Teutonic KnightThe Teutons' strongest attacking rider. | 150 | 50 | 75 | 9 | 80 | 3 |
| RamKnocks down the wall before your army reaches it. | 65 | 30 | 80 | 4 | 0 | 3 |
| CatapultWrecks buildings and fields in a normal attack. | 50 | 60 | 10 | 3 | 0 | 6 |
| ChiefThe administrator: lowers a village's loyalty until it is yours. | 40 | 60 | 40 | 5 | 0 | 4 |
| SettlerFounds a new village. You need three. | 10 | 80 | 80 | 5 | 3,000 | 1 |
Base values before upgrades. Speed is in fields per hour on a ×1 world and is multiplied by the world's troop speed.
The Chief and conquest
The Chief is the Teutons' administrator. Every Chief that arrives in a normal attack and survives lowers loyalty by 20 to 25. Don't send him during a Brewery festival. Details in the chapter on your second village.
