The Spartans have footmen strong in attack and defence, and heavy riders that hit hard. Their troops cost more than others', and their Big Hospital heals part of the soldiers who fall.
Attack Defence Speed Easy start
Strengths
- Footmen strong in attack and defence alike.
- Big Hospital: half of the village's dead soldiers become wounded you can heal, instead of 40% in a normal Hospital.
Weaknesses
- Their troops are expensive and take longer to train than others'.
- Their merchant carries 500, at 14 fields an hour.
- They don't build the normal Hospital.
Their own buildings
- Defensive Wall: the Spartans' wall.
- Big Hospital: needs a Main Building at level 10 and an Academy at level 15. It heals the wounded for half their training cost.
Troops
These are the Spartans' ten troops as the game has them, each with what it is for:
| Unit | Attack | Def. vs infantry | Def. vs cavalry | Speed (fields/h) | Carry | Crop upkeep |

| Spartan SettlerFounds a new village. You need three. | 10 | 80 | 80 | 5 | 3,000 | 1 |
Base values before upgrades. Speed is in fields per hour on a ×1 world and is multiplied by the world's troop speed.
The Ephor and conquest
The Ephor is the Spartans' administrator. Every Ephor that arrives in a normal attack and survives lowers loyalty by 20 to 25. Details in the chapter on your second village.
Who they suit
Players who like a small, strong army and don't mind a slower economy.
Tips for the start
- Agoge Warriors are enough defence at the start.
- Build the Big Hospital before the big battles.
