Chapter 4

Army and battles

How to train your army in Natars, the difference between a raid, a normal attack, reinforcements and scouting, how a fight is decided, and farm lists.

An army leaving the village gate with infantry, riders, a ram and a catapult
In brief
  • Infantry trains in the Barracks, cavalry in the Stable, siege engines in the Workshop.
  • Raids are for loot with smaller losses; normal attacks are for wrecking and conquering.
  • Send scouts before every important attack.

Your army protects your resources and brings you other people's. Every tribe has ten units: infantry, cavalry, scouts, siege engines, an administrator and a settler. You'll find every tribe's units and what each is for in the tribe guides.

Training

Most units need research in the Academy before you can train them. Then you train infantry in the Barracks, cavalry in the Stable, and rams and catapults in the Workshop. Remember that every soldier eats crop every hour.

Ways to send an army

  • Raid: both sides share the losses by their strength, so usually neither is wiped out, and the survivors bring home what they carry. Good for plunder.
  • Normal attack: a fight until one side is wiped out. Only here do catapults and administrators work, and the hero takes oases and artefacts.
  • Reinforcement: your troops go to defend an ally's village or another of yours. Soldiers eat the crop of the village they stay in.
  • Scouting: scouts find out what resources and soldiers the target holds.

How a fight is decided

Every unit has an attack value and two defences: against infantry and against cavalry. The attackers' total attack is set against the defenders' total defence, and the defence gets the wall's bonus and the Residence's or Palace's. So:

  • Attack with cavalry a village whose defenders are weak against cavalry.
  • Make your defence a mix that holds against infantry and cavalry alike.
  • Try a battle before you send it in the game's combat simulator.

Farm lists

With the Gold Club you keep lists of the villages you always raid in the Rally Point, and send raids at all of them with one click.

Tips

  • If an attack bigger than your army is coming, don't leave your army in the village: send it away on a mission or as reinforcements.
  • Regular raids on inactive villages are a good source of resources early in a round.
  • The hero strengthens the whole army. Read the chapter on the hero.
